The Road to Tulum

Hope you enjoy...

This is the first of two slideshows. This particular show includes two days worth of pictures. All the locations were along highway 308 which I dubbed "The Road to Tulum." I've been meaning to find the original map drawn by the owner of our hotel, its what we used to reach our destinations!

Each new location is marked with sand-script that was actually suppose to be funny... We actually spent a few minutes on our last day writing names of places we visited in the sand - talk about planning ahead!

We visited Xcaret "Esh-kar-et" on Thursday (day 1). It is an eco theme water park with many amazing sites.

We got to swim with the dolphins!!!

Yes that was my surprise from our first Mexico post. I've actually always dreamed of doing that and it was absolutely amazing - although I cant compare it to skydiving I can put it into the same caliber of experiences. Xcaret also had cenotes "sen o tays" which are underground water caves/tunnels. It was much more tamed than I expected but still something I had never done and would definitely do again. We tried to use my point-n-shoot in a water proof case but very little pictures came out.

Saturday we rented a car dubbed the Chevy Teeny Tiny by Kristiaan. We set out for a multiple stop road trip which included Yal-Ku an amazing lagoon for snorkeling; Zamas, a hotel/restaurant literally on the beach and Tulum which is a site of ancient Mayan ruins.

p.s. Sorry about the length, its roughly eleven and a half minutes but I promise you its worth it :)

Morning at Patapsco

So this morning I decided to take a hike, as opposed to my usual grueling ride, to some dilapidated houses along one of the trails at Patapsco. Weather was cool and crisp and the clouds were overcast providing a nice consistent light for pictures. My goal was basically to scout that particular area for possibly a future photoshoot with model. I ended turning a 1 hour hike into a 4 hour one but it was well worth the pictures and the serenity!

Todays word of the day is Zamas!

The food... simply the highlight of the day and even getting scammed out of twice the price of gas we should have paid for.

So today consisted of renting a Chevy "teeny tiny"(according to Kristiaan) and driving South on the 307 towards Tulum whilst making stops along the way. We had a map hand drawn by the owner of our hotel, The Luna Blue which is a great place to stay, especially for those of us on a budget.

We first stopped at Akumal for some snorkeling at Yal-Ku where you just pay $7 for entry and you're on your own for the fun. There were two other small stops on the way we chose to bypass, they were Akumal Bay and Half Moon bay.

Next we stopped for gas at Pemex where we were had! Word to the wise - if you can pump your own gas DO IT or at least watch the meter! One of the gas attendants came over to talk distract us while the other one pumped our gas and when he was done quickly erased the total (Liters and price) and gave us a ridiculous verbal receipt. I should have known better and a few minutes after leaving we were both cursing a storm down the highway. But we didn't let that get us down and continued on to Tulum.

Our next stop was to go to a little beach restaurant at a hotel called Zamas. WOW and more WOW. Todays pictures are based solely on our eating experience regardless of the other amazing things we did.

After that we went to the Ruins of Tulum which was in the process of closing so we were rushed and only had 30 minutes to run through the park. On our way out we spontaneously pulled the car over and ran out to a beach in hopes for some long awaited sunset pictures but we thwarted by south facing beach. Still I promise you all some great pictures from it.

Enjoy todays Zamas theme:
